NO CAR, NO MONEY BACK, STAY AWAY!
The company refused to give me a car and made zero efforts to assist me or pay me back. The lady at the counter had no computer and told me she couldn't do anything for me and the person in the helpline was extremely unfriendly. After 3 weeks I still didn't get my money back and my credit card company had to chase the money back for me as the company itself did't do any effort to pay me back.
The staff is either overwhelmed, incompetent and unwilling to help (at the desk) or absolutely rude (telefone helpline).
The website looks professional but the store itself is extremely run down, smells and is not a nice place at all.
There are many reasons not to use that company.

I have rented many cars from Great Island car rental during my summer holidays there. As I live overseas but often spend the whole summer in Cork, I need frequent car rentals. The staff are always extremely friendly and helpful. The cars are not always as late model as the chain car rental places but they are always clean and get us where we need to go very reliably. They usually beat other car companies on price, often by a significant amount. Last summer we had to rent minivans as we were a large party and the price at Great Island was always much cheaper than anywhere else. I always price checked very thoroughly as car rentals were a substantial cost throughout the summer. The website is quite informative although I have always made my final arrangements in person on MacCurtain Street. Drop off arrangements are very flexible should you be returning to Cork late at night. I have recommended Great Island to my other family members when they travel to Cork and they have been pleased with the price and service here also.

Outrageous price always tried to support local businesses my own fault for not checking first but was charged 115 Euro for a car the same car and deal available from Enterprise for less than 40 euro and that includes a free pick up service

Highly recommend this very professional/reliable/cost effective car rental service. I have the pleasure of being a regular customer of Great Island Car Rentals and from reviewing the marketplace they are very competitive on costings, have an excellent selection of cars to choose from and are very professional and reliable. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
