Medium range budget hotel but they increase their rates in the evening onwards without any rules and regulations.

We stayed five nights. While in Kolkata previously, we had looked at a number of budget hotels / guesthouses for quality and price. It's a variable bunch and quite a few tell you to come back at 12 to see if there is a room available - maybe they're all full but it's annoying. The Emirates provided an early morning check in, which was welcomed as our train arrived at 7am and we didn't have to waste the morning waiting for confirmation. Maqbool at the front desk was friendly, efficient and professional. We negotiated a price and although it's not a flash place it offered better rooms than quite a few we had checked out previously on and around Sudder St. We had bath / hot water, TV and a little sun room - we chose non AC but AC is available. The staff were always responsive to requests and were friendly. The hotel is in a colonial type building on the first floor and there's a bit of a terrace overlooking the street. Quiet and good location for both Park Rd side and New Market side. An authentic Kolkata feel to the place.
