This place is the worst establishment I have ever been in. The customer service is absolutely terrible and all they care about is getting your money. They treat you well when you are joining and then they flip the switch right after you give them you money. They lock you in for a year and then if you do not cancel with a cancellation form them continue to charge you every month after that. I moved to Colorado half way through my membership and they would not let me out of the contract without a signed lease and that was all I could do. After I recieved my lease I sent it to them and they made me pay that month and the next month because you have to have 30 days notice to leave even though I had come in way before I moved to cancel. The people that work there, espeically the owners are absolutely horrbile, disrespectful and very rude. They DO NOT care about the people that attend the gym all they care about is getting their money. I would recommend that EVERYONE STAY AS FAR AS YOU CAN FROM THIS PLACE. WORST BUSINESS ETHIC AND MORALS I HAVE EVER SEEN.

I am no fitness freak - in fact, I was the fat kid who hated gym class in school and never looked at let alone went to a gym for years. The result was poor health, diabetes, hypertension, depression, etc. About 5 years ago I decided to try to get healthy and joined Planet Fitness. While the equipment was nice, I had no idea how to use it properly. I became discouraged after several weeks, and never went back. Upon moving to Rochester, a friend of mine encouraged me to try to get healthy.
Boy am I glad I did. ALL the staff at Downtown Fitness is respectful, courteous, and eager to help. I have tons of questions, and they always make time to answer them. I never feel like a third wheel because I am so out of shape. In fact, many times the staff and even other members encourage me with a lot of 'doing great' 'glad you are here' and the best one was 'wow, you are really looking healthier! Better smile and happier, and you are losing the inches too! Keep it up!' That compliment came from one of the young guys who works there on Wed and Thurs nights.
A HUGE thank you to the staff and owners for helping me to believe in myself to reach my fitness goals!

Nice staff...never so busy that there is a wait...the pool is great!! Lots of equipment. Clean. Have never had anything but a great experience there. It's a no frills kind of gym but I like that. I don't want my gym to be an "experience"...I just want to work out and move on...

I have tried three different gyms in the past six years, and I must say I have had the best experience at the DFC. Sure, some equipment have the blue sign of doom (not in service). Sure, the decor isn't the most chic. But the gym does not promote itself as an uber-chic facility. Not only does the location work for me, as I live and work in the area, but for the price ($39.95 per month, but I believe they have cheaper packages) it fits my budget. From the encouraging weekly emails, to the positive energy from its staff, I have never felt disrespected, intimated or pressured by anyone since I walked in nearly a year ago.

Again, if you're looking for a posh facility this is not the place. But, if you live and/or work in the downtown area, and want to squeeze in a workout without having to take a trip outside the district, I would highly recommend it.
