I recently heard Dr Hurley is no longer practicing medicine.

Have been w/ him for 2+ yrs & he's great , that said I think the desk clerk/secretaries are hired from day labor as they are beyond thick & continually fail at messages & scheduling along w/ an inept manner of decorum that makes patients leave his care

My mother in law also has Dr hurley as her doctor. He recently had to close his practice due to insurance issues and sent out letters to inform his patients. My letter just said that he wasent taking my insurance anymore and that I would have to find another doctor. Her letter said the same thing but also had a doctor listed for her. Dr. Hurley all ways treated me like I was a scumbag. He looked disgusted every time he walked in the room when I went to my appointment. I would get sick before all my appointments because I would be so nervous to go see him. He is not very friendly and I think it was wrong of him to send generic letters to his patients but special more detailed letters with a list of doctors he recommends to his patients that he liked. All his patients are there for medical help and it's unfair to have favorites and it makes made me so mad that I was scrambling to find a new a doctor and was so worried I would have to go without my suboxone if the doctors I called were full and to see my mother in laws letter with doctors he recommended and thier names and addresses listed made me sick. It's rude and it's unprofessional.

He has often complained about my high cholesterol, then ordered a blood test and I never got a call back. I go back to him for something he expressed concern about my cholesterol, he ordered another blood test and I never heard anything. This happened about 3 times. He also once gave me the wrong prescription and the pharmacist advised me to change doctors and I have.

I will be changing doctors, and the overwhelming reason is because Dr. Hurley's front staff is the worst I have ever encountered in a medical office. I don't understand how a doctors office can be so disorganized. To boot, the receptionist is unhelpful and just incredibly rude. She doesn't really seem to care if she can't answer basic questions that are reasonable to assume a receptionist should know. It turns me off to the whole entire practice.

Dr. Hurley isn't the worst, but I always feel very rushed during my visits, and he has a very "blah" manner about him. Some don't mind that, but I prefer a doctor who shows some personality and concern.
One incident that really made me kind of angry was when I came in for a slip for blood work. Standing in the doorway of the waiting room, he asked me what I needed to get blood work for. It was not anything personal, but there were about 3 other patients in the waiting room at the time, and I was on the opposite side of the room. I kind of paused because I was a little caught off guard that he would ask a patient a question like that with others around, and he gave me a look like, "hello?" It was just for an iron panel, but I was so shocked that a doctor would think that that was okay. While in my case, it was not for anything really personal- it definitely *could* have been. A doctor should always assume respect for his patients privacy, and he should have asked me to come up to speak with me privately, before questioning why I needed it.

2 stars because one thing I will say is that he was very easy to make an appointment with. They usually have openings within a week or less.
