You will never see your deposit back and NYhabitat does not care about you after they received the money. They are very reactive and helpful at first but trust me once you signed the rent contract all of this is over. Moreover, NYhabitat insulted me and threatened me to call the police because I "didn´t pay my rent on time" but, guess what, since the very beginning, the bank coordinates were not accurate and NYhabitat never verified this... A simple and pure disgrace but you will not be able to do anything because you are just a tourist.

I would have given them 0 stars if it was possible. New York Habitat will basically collect your money and you won't hear from them again. Our landlord refused to give us back our deposit and there was nothing we could do from France.
If you want to see your deposit back, I strongly advise you not to rent an apartment from Paula Odessa. She was dishonest and purely and simply stole our money.
I hope this will help and prevent people from having the same terrible experience with New York Habitat and this landlord.

New York habitat is quick to collect agent commission but slow to respond to your needs and communication. I would never recommend using New York Habitat. While the website is rather easy to follow, contacting agents is of no help. Tamara Chevdar was not a responsive agent. When I called New York Habitat and asked to change agents, they asked why. I told them that I wanted someone more responsive. Then, their receptionist mistakenly included me on an email indicating to the manager that I had requested a new agent.
Why does the manager include my original agent on an email two days later? They really don't seem to be organized at all.
I also don't understand how something can no longer be available ten minutes after I indicate wishing to see the unit, but then available two days later.
Brokers in general are a bit sleazy here in New York, but New York Habitat wins the award for being the worst! If you're going to invest in finding an apartment in New York, look somewhere else.

I would STRONGLY advise against using NY Habitat based on our experience with them. The New York office listed an apartment in Paris which we leased for 10 months. The website explains that all properties have been inspected and the landlords vetted by NY Habitat but we do not believe that they had devoted any real effort in this regard to the property we rented. They are selling a service providing listings for furnished properties to those needing to find accommodation in London/Paris/NYC from abroad with no chance to view them, usually for minimum periods of 1 month. On arrival the property was extremely dirty, fitted with half-broken furniture and the cupboards already full of the remains from previous tenants. The conclusion of the lease ended up in dispute with the landlord over return of our deposit and NY Habitat did dutifully chase her several times at our instigation. However, our requests for any greater help both adjudicating with the landlord and advising us on our potential recourses under French tenancy law were woeful from NY Habitat. They merely washed their hands of the matter and retained their hefty up-front fee of over 10% of the total rental contract. That amount of money for a listing on their website is questionable at best.
